Opportunity:Woodworking with Boys & Girls Clubs in Allegheny County

Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania needs volunteer assistance at their Shadyside Clubhouse. They need ""woodworking friendly"" volunteers to construct Lending Library cabinets for their various Clubhouses. The Lending Libraries will be positioned outdoors near each Clubhouse so that neighbors and members can borrow and share books free of charge.
The agency will provide wood, tools, paint, other raw materials, and lunch. Please bring your own work and safety tools, such as eye protection and gloves. Woodworking and painting experience is a plus.
The minimum age for this project is 18.

Community Care Connections needs volunteer assistance at one of their residential homes for adults with disabilities. Volunteer tasks include weeding and cleanup of the existing landscaped areas surrounding the home, cleaning up the edging of the landscaped areas, cutting and laying landscape fabric, and laying landscape stone onto landscape fabric.
The agency will provide lunch, landscape fabric and rock, shovels, wheelbarrows, gloves, and fabric scissors. Please bring your own water.
The minimum age for this project is 18. Volunteers must have ability to shovel and push heavy weight.

Opportunity:Cleaning with Community Kitchen Pittsburgh in Allegheny County

Community Kitchen Pittsburgh needs volunteer assistance at their facility. The project entails a thorough cleaning of our facility. Specific volunteer tasks may include picking up trash around the outside of the facility, cleaning the windows on the outside and inside, power washing the building, washing the company vehicles, cleaning, organizing and labeling various storage areas, inventory and organizing wares (glasses, plates, bowls, sheet trays, Cambros, large equipment etc.) and cleaning insides of coolers.
The agency will provide all necessary cleaning materials and equipment, gloves, and lunch. Please wear comfortable clothing that you don't mind getting dirty. Close-toed shoes that will not slip easily on wet floors.
The minimum age for this project is 18.

Opportunity:Cleaning and maintenance at Laurelville Retreat Center in Westmoreland County

Laurelville Retreat Center serves 20,000+ youth and adults in a typical year. Volunteers will help prep currently uninhabitable living spaces through a major clean-up and light demolition workday. This service project provides critical prep work to a fall "Blitz Build", a six-day renovation to be conducted by Hosanna House (Pittsburgh) and Mennonite Disaster Services (Maryland) build team. Volunteers will break into groups, each led by a Laurelville staff person, with options from roadway clearing to ripping out walls, to clean-up.
The agency will provide lunch, tools, and additional equipment. Please bring your own work gloves and water.

Opportunity:Food Collection Drive at Home

Even at home, you can join individuals and families all over the area to make an impact during United Way of Southwestern PA?s Week of Caring.

Help children in our community have access to food over the weekend by hosting a food collection drive at your home or office. By providing food, families will have one less thing to worry about during this time. Please be sure to include all non-perishable food items. Ideas include: individual cereal cups, oatmeal packets, macaroni and cheese, raviolis, snacks, canned goods, etc.

Once you have completed your collection drive, please pack everything up and deliver to our offices.

Deliver your food bags to one of our contactless drop-off locations during business hours (M-F, 9 AM - 5 PM) from September 10 - 17. Just give us a call when you arrive and our staff (wearing masks) will facilitate your contactless drop-off. After registering, our staff will email you to confirm drop-off information.

Westmoreland County Food Bank needs volunteer assistance for various projects. Volunteer tasks include scraping and painting an outdoor garage and packing food donations for Operation Fresh Express Program.
The agency will provide all painting supplies. Please bring your own lunch. The agency also requests a volunteer bring one 6-ft ladder. If you can do this, please email Courtney.schreiner@unitedwayswpa.org after registering.
The minimum age for this project is 18. Painting experience and ability to work on a ladder is a plus.
