Dig In: Join us to volunteer at Hilltop Urban Farm!

Description

Nestled above 11 city of Pittsburgh neighborhoods is an amazing 23-acre urban agricultural oasis, called Hilltop Urban Farm, where neighbors, farmers and community members come together to grow food and foster community bonds. The farm--which sits on vacant land that was formerly the site of public housing owned by the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh-- is now a vibrant center for youth education and workforce training for urban farmers.

On May 21, you're invited to join with your fellow Bridges Society members to dig in and prepare farm plots that will supply the community with abundant fresh fruits and vegetables. Hidden to many, Hilltop Urban Farm is a shining example of the innovation and creative thinking that happens when neighbors, nonprofits and urban planners come together.

Come prepared to dig, plant and eat together. We'll supply the soil, seeds and gardening equipment. Please come prepared to garden and bring your own refillable water bottle, hat and sunscreen. Food and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided afterwards.

Please note: Dress for the weather and to work in the garden. Closed-toe shoes are a must, and long pants are strongly recommended as you may work on the ground or in tall grass. You will likely get dirty. We'll work in light rain, but in the event of thunderstorms or hard rain, we will cancel by email.

There is ample on-site parking. All food and drinks will be provided. Alcohol is not permitted on farm grounds.
